Artist

I spend much of my life outdoors, both through my garden design work and in my free time, and nature is at the heart of my painting. Designing planting schemes feels very similar to creating a painting: building layers, textures and movement to create depth, balance and interest. Walks in nature with my dog, Esme, whether along the coast, through woodland or across open fields, are a constant source of inspiration. I am endlessly drawn to the changing seasons and the shifting colours and textures of the landscape throughout the year. Working mainly with acrylic paint, I enjoy experimenting with mark-making tools such as brushes, sponges, spatulas and even my hands, often incorporating mixed media and found materials like tin foil, old credit cards or everyday objects to create unique textures and layers. Through my work I hope to capture a sense of the calm, restorative power of the natural world. I invite viewers to pause, look closely and perhaps discover their own meaning within the painting, and above all to experience a moment of quiet pleasure and peace.
